I was hoping for maybe hyacinth and roses in orange and red and yellow and pink. Does anybody know anything about these flowers? Can I get them? And if so, where? (I'm in Des Moines, Iowa)
I am getting married in October and want to know if I can get hyacinth in a bouquet?
Roses should be available but the hyacinths would have to be forced by a grower. I'd go with something more seasonal.
Reply:You'd have to order months in advance and they still may have to come from below the Equator. Shipping could be a killer. Are you going for their appearance or scent? If scent, you have other options. Appearance.......maybe phlox instead. Remember the bouquet will be held just a short time and not noticed by 99% of the other people attending. They will be looking at you! Not so much your dress, but at YOU!
Reply:Hyacinth can be forced to bloom out of season. The bulbs need to be chilled for about 12 weeks prior to planting, then given 2-3 weeks growing time to bloom. If you don't want to do this yourself, perhaps you having gardening friends who like a challenge. Here's one souce and there's lots more info on the web if you Google "forcing hyacinth".
Reply:You can get them but you will pay more if they are out of season. You can save money on flowers if you buy the ones that are in season and that the florist can grow.
I got married in July and I love tulips. But I didn't have any tulips because they were out of season and it would have cost a lot of money.
