Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping water in fresh cut flowers for a bridal bouquet?

I am helping my sister with her bridal bouquet...she is planning on carrying a bouquet of cut flowers. Does anyone know a way of keeping water in the stem so the flowers do not dry out at wilt? I have heard of gluing the cut ends of the stems, but I don't know what type of glue to use....any tips??

Store them in water in the fridge until RIGHT before the ceremony (and put them back in water between pictures and ceremony as well as have a vase for them to sit in during the reception prior to the toss). Have a nice thirsty towel handy to drip them onto prior to use.





Just an FYI, cut flowers will usually stand going without water for an hour or two without problems...depends upon how delicate the flowers are though (roses last better than peonies for example).
Reply:The only thing I have ever heard is to not cut them with scissors because that seals the stems, if you want them to drink lots of water cut them with a sharp knife on an angle.





Honestly, florists are usually so nice, I would go into your local florist and ask them for tips and advice, best to get the answer straight from the horses mouth.

Reply:My mom was a florist for many years and i've never heard of glueing the stems. My suggestion is just to keep it in water and acool place as long as possible. The florist making it will stick in a bucket of water and put it in the cooler overnight until you pick it up. AS soon as you get to the reception site make sure you have some sort of container to use as a vase. Something you can put water in and put the boquet in it. Other than that there are no tricks that I know of.
