I saw on www.aquarelle.co.uk that for a bouquet having a diameter of 30 cms one needs 32 roses, for one of 25 cms: 27 roses and for one of 35 cms in diameter 37 roses. I want to use different varieties of flowers instead of roses, but do not know if this proportions will do. How does a professional florist determine the number of flowers vrs. volume proportion when making a bouquet?
Question for florists: flower quantity vrs bouquet volume ratio?
i would use as meny different flowers as you like until it looks good and smells Devinne good luck

How should I advertise for my small balloon bouquet business?
I am starting college 4 days per week in the morning until afternoon and I have decided to start my own small balloon boquet business. I am a very experienced balloon twister and entertainer as well. Tonight I finished designing my business card and flyer. It states that I do Balloon Bouquets, Twisting Entertainment, and Event Decor. I have an ad on Craigslist.
What should I do now to get some business?
How should I advertise for my small balloon bouquet business?
Well, I'm a clown and I do balloons as well. I have a 4 ft by 6 ft sign on the corner of my street. Bright red and white with black outline. Very attractive. I also have a lighted sign on top of my car that says ABAGAIL the CLOWN with my phone number. This has worked quite well and it only cost me $212.00 once.
Reply:YEP! I got business from that. I always ask "Where did you hear about me?" Helps to find out what yor best ads bring. Report It
Reply:Well that really depends on how much you can afford to spend on advertising! If you can't afford much, then you should try putting up posters near kindergartens or McDonalds or another place you think your potential customers may be passing by! And of course if you can afford more I'm sure you know that you can advertise on TV or on billboards.
Reply:. Your college probably has a lot of bulletin boards in every building?
Post a notice along with your phone # and you know to be aware of underage drinkers and NO pay hosts?

How much will this bouquet re-creation cost?

I'm in love with this bouquet, and want to re-create it only using white and ivory roses with the green ivy trim around it. Could anyone out there with floral arranging experience ballpark a cost for this bouquet? Thanks in advance!

Bridal Bouquet - Is there a specific season for calalillys?
I want to use burnt orange calalillys for my bridesmaids bouquets. My wedding is in October.... Will these flowers be in season? Do they have a season? Thanks!
Bridal Bouquet - Is there a specific season for calalillys?
In general calla lilies are available year-round! For the June through September season calla lilies are grown domestically with US growers. From November through May they are shipped from farms in South America and New Zealand where the calla lily season is once again at its peak.
Reply:Congratulations on your big event!
A good resource for seasonal availability of fresh cut flowers in North America is the California Cut Flower Commission. They produce about 80% of the domestic cut flowers supply in the US.
They have an excellent seasonal availability section which covers most of the cut flowers florist use. There's also some basic care and handling tips and a picture and description of each flower type there too. Callas are located at the following url: http://www.ccfc.org/encyclopedia/86.html
According to that guide, callas are available year round, so you shouldn't have a problem in finding them.
Hope this helps!

Can a latex balloon or a bouquet of balloons make it into space? Or will it just pop in the atmosphere?
We saw a balloon bouquet going up in the air today and were wondering if the balloons would pop at a certain point in the atmosphere or would they continue on. I know nothing about the different atmosphereic levels and whether ballons would even stand a chance.
Can a latex balloon or a bouquet of balloons make it into space? Or will it just pop in the atmosphere?
A lighter than air balloon will rise as long as it is - lighter than air. Once it reaches a point where the air is thin and equals the air inside the balloon, it will stop rising. As it rises the air pressure lessens so it will expand. So the question is, which point will the balloon reach first, where it hovers stable or where it expands beyond what the material can hold and it pops? Into space..I dont think so
Reply:not to space itself but the edge os space certainly. but not your everyday party latex ballons, they are to thin and weak. but NASA in the early 60s did get a modified weather ballon with a basket underneath carrying a person (in a space suit due to lack of atmoshere) up to 110,000 feet. he was so high he could see the curveture of the earth. the first time any person saw with there own eyes that the earth is indeed round
now your everday ballon will expand and pop when it gets up to 30,000 feet, lower air pressure allows it to expand
Reply:Probably they will not pop, but they will only go up so high, and no higher as they loose buoyancy in the thinner air at high altitude. The balloons only float if they are lighter than the air around them, and the air around them gets lighter as it gets thinner at higher and higher altitude. Scientific research balloons are very light and very big to be able to go very high in very thin air, but party balloons are made of comparatively thick and heavy materials and so cannot go very high.
Reply:a latex balloon would pop when the pressure dropped to low and the internal pressure popped it. but if the material had sufficient tensile strength it would float up word till the weight of the air the balloon dis paced equaled the weight of the balloon and the gas it contains
Reply:They will probably pop before they reach 10,000 feet (that's a pretty low altitude). As they rise, the pressure on the outside drops because the air gets thinner. But the pressure on the inside stays the same. So the difference between the pressure on the inside and the pressure on the outside grows, and the balloon expands. These balloons are not very strong, and they are pretty full to start with, so it wouldn't take much to get them to fail.
Reply:Party balloons would reach a maximum altitude and stay there. The helium would leak out and they would then fall.
Weather balloons are designed to attain a maximum altitude then burst. They are a lot flimsier than party balloons to make this happen.
Any balloon will survive in space as long as the pressure difference between inside and outside doesn't exceed the structural strength of the balloon. See, for example, the experiments in inflatable modules for space stations, which are effectively balloons.

What is the most money you would pay for a wedding silk wedding bouquet?
How much should i expect to pay for a silk handtied and silk shower bouquet?
What is the most money you would pay for a wedding silk wedding bouquet?
It varies. But try this site for your silk flowers; it has a great reputation.
http://www.save-on-crafts.com/
They have sillk gerbers, roses, callas, exotics and greenery + premade bouquets; you can find whole bouquets for $10-15 here:
http://www.save-on-crafts.com/whitivcrea...
Reply:If you research prices, you will find that real flowers from wholesalers are alot cheaper than silks.
I'm not a fan of silks personally, and I can spot them a mile away. But I would probably pay $5-10 total for silk leaves or Christmas decorations to be added to fresh bouquets.
Reply:You should check on-line for the cheapest prices...sorry I eloped in Vegas so I don't really know. GOOD LUCK though and congrats!!
Reply:it really depends on the sort of style of bouquet that you want i got married in feb 06 and most places for a real one , tight tear drop style was around £80 so you would probably be looking at around £40-£45 but if you want to do it cheaply and being your going for silk and they aren't going to die it would work out a lot cheaper to buy it all and make it yourself at least you can keep fiddling until your happy
Reply:sorry about the long answer but you have to choose your budget, if you want to keep it then spend a little more. i,ve just had mine made in silk cala lilly, feathers and a cage (very unusual), 2 coursages and 8 buttonholes for £100. Speak to your local florist, if they want your business you may be able to sort out a deal. i've also bought 10 single flowers, feathers etc to make my own similar one for me to throw. good look hope you find what you want x
Reply:Well, it really depends on quality of the silks, you can get bouquets made out of what they put out in the cemetary if you want, and I wouldn't pay anymore than 40-50 for something made of that stuff, cuz its not very realisitc and the qualitys not as good, or you can get the home decor type stuff that looks real, and it can often cost as much per stem as real flowers do...I would say if you are goin with the good stuff, look to spend 75ish!
edit for added info, I made my centerpeices out of silk gerbera daisies that I got from this site www.save-on-crafts.com, they have GREAT quality stuff, and I got the most realistic silk daisies ive ever seen for around $.50 a piece, I made topiary balls with um and it took around 30 a peice, and they were the size of a hand-tied bridal bouquet, so that may give you an idea, seriously look into that site, good stufff for a small price!
Reply:I used silk flowers for my wedding.I paid $45 for my bouquet and it was georgeous. I also paid like $15 each for the bridesmaids bouquets.
Reply:I used fresh, real flowers for my wedding bouquet. I would never think of using cheap silk flowers.
Reply:IM NOT SURE ON THE ACTUAL PRICE OF THE BOUQUET, BUT I WOULDNT PAY MORE THAN $50.00 FOR IT...U CAN MAKE A REALLY PRETTY ARRANGEMENT YOURSELF CHEAPER THAN THAT.....
Reply:I would say any thing between £50-£60. But at the end of the day its up to you and your budget.
Reply:there are lots of bargains on ebay ive seen some nice ones for £13.99. tie the knot flowers on ebay have a look. I could get my boquet, 4 small bridesmaid posies (great for little kids which mine are) and 16 buttonholes for about £50. In silk. Bargain!
I know people who spent several hundred on fresh flowers for one day.....

How do you make roses open like pictured so they look perfect for my bouquet?
Is there a magic formula for making roses open as pictured here? http://www.ftd.com/promo14/catalog/produ...
I am going to order this bouquet either for myself or my bridemaids, and I want them to look just like pictured.
Should I have them delivered one day before, or on the day of the wedding?
How do you make roses open like pictured so they look perfect for my bouquet?
Funny, I was just trying to decide between Calla lillies %26amp; roses myself! http://www.mandalaybay.com/thingstodo/fl...
Gosh, yanno, everytime I've had roses I've always had a few that just didn't open - I wish you could ask the florist to only make them that day with opened roses - that way you'd know %26amp; get what you want. If you get em a day ahead, maybe you can watch them %26amp; throw em in the fridge when they get where you want? I've heard of using steam, but I'm really not sure, sweets. Good luck
Reply:Ask your florist about when to have the arrangements look as fresh as the blooming roses pictured. If you are making your own bouquets, go to Martha Stewart dot com. (If in a vase at home put aspirin in the water before you place the roses in it.)
PS I hope you have a wonderful wedding! Best wishes for the future.

How do you make a chocolate bar & candy bouquet?
I'm trying to make a candy bouquet for a centerpiece, and I wanted to know how to make one. I bought a flower pot, mini candy bars, Skittles, and many other Halloween candies. But I don't know how to assemble it. I purchased bbq skewers, floral tape, %26amp; floral foam (Cones %26amp; rectangular shaped foam). I tried putting one together by gluing the skewers to the candy, but for some reason I don't know how to assemble it nicely and I don't know which floral foam to use for something like that. Any specific directions? Example: http://imagescommerce.bcentral.com/merch... (Does anyone know if the candy is assembled all around the pot or on just one side?)
How do you make a chocolate bar %26amp; candy bouquet?
well, this may take awhile...its easier to use hersheys kisses, but here goes. Put the skewer just a bit into the candy, take the floral tape, and stretch it as you wrap, around the bottom of the candy and down the skewer. Put whatever floral foam fits the best into your pot...cut the skewers into about three different lengths, and arrange the candy all around..all sides, with the tallest at the top. You will still need something to cover the floral foam that shows..like shredded tissue paper or floral moss or something ..hope this helps

Picture of the flower bouquet used in everybody loves raymond?
When Raymond and his family go to Italy, he has a bad time, but then he cheers up and gives each of his female relatives a bouquet of flowers wrapped in, i think, pink tissue. i love the bouquet that he gave to his wife debra, but i can't find a picture of it. can anyone help me, please? =]
Picture of the flower bouquet used in everybody loves raymond?
Sorry, I can't help with a picture. If it's any consolation, they use artificial bouquets because it's too hot on the sets for real ones. They would wilt too quickly.

Can anyone send pictures of potted Gerbera daisy as center pieces and a bouquet?
I am planning to create my own centerpieces for my wedding reception. I plan to make 15 or more centerpieces. I want to keep the Gerbera daisy in a pot. I also want to make a bouquet. Does any one have any ideas on how to make them. The wedding will be August 2, 2008. When should I plan to make the centerpieces.
Can anyone send pictures of potted Gerbera daisy as center pieces and a bouquet?
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...
That's the potted gerbera daisy--of course you can add as many as you'd like.
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...
This is cool--a bride made her own bouquets as well--and she give instructions.
Reply:I would be weary about using gerber daisies in your bouquet. They don't last very well and might start dropping before the ceremony. I would make sure you ask a florist about the flowers you intend to use in the bouquet to make sure they will survive and look fresh throughout your wedding and pictures. Also, making potted center pieces you could probably do ahead of time but making your own bouquet might be difficult as it would have to be done the day before your wedding and that day is pretty much the busiest day ever. Good luck getting it all done.
Reply:I had a friend make mine. She made them the night before the wedding and put them in the refrigerator. Mine were all roses which keep a bit longer. I worked in a flower shop and daisies don't keep quite as long. Seeing as it's August I'd make sure they stay in a cool place until needed---run the a/c in the car.

What the name for the flower/plant also known as "bride's bouquet"?
I've been reading LM Montgomery, where she refers to a garden flower (or possibly flowering shrub) as "bride's bouquet".
I can't find it on the Internet ... does anyone know what plant she means?
The novel was published during the 1930s.
What the name for the flower/plant also known as "bride's bouquet"?
Porana paniculata (Bridal Bouquet, Christ Vine, Snow Creeper, Snow-in-the-Jungle, White Corallita): Liane to 9m. Lvs cordate, to 15 cm, slender-acuminate, white-pubesc. beneath. Pan. large, pendulous; flowers to 8mm, white, tubular-campanulate. Summer. N India, Upper Burm.
Porana: In the Convolvulaceae family. 20 slender, twining herbs or shrubs. Flowers small, in term. pan. or cymes or solitary, 1 or more sep. enlarged; tubular-campanulate to funnelform, lobes broad, spreading, plicate. Trop. Asia, Aus. Z10.
Sorry for the scientific description it came out of my botanical book! Here's a link for a picture, scroll down to Convolvulaceae and find Porana: http://www.virtualherbarium.org/gl/famtm...
Hope this helps! (P.S. I've read the "Anne" and "Emily" books!) :)
Reply:I will agree with Baby's Breath. You can grow it from seed.
Reply:My guess is that it is some kind of spiraea. Bridal Wreath.
Reply:Try Pavetta lanceolata called the Brides Bush here in RSA .. Hope this helps.
Reply:small and different clumps of roses.
Reply:I know 'baby's breath' is always in bouquets. it's small white flowers. maybe that's it. does it describe the flower at all?
Reply:Crassula hybrid 'Bride Bouquet' 'Polly's Pink' 'Spring Time' is part of this complex.
'Brides Bouquet' will have a rough sandpaper keel. (the underside of the leaf) and I believe Crassula rupestris is one of the parents, no parents named it is a Dick Wright hybrid.
All three came from the same heritage, and there is a slight difference.

Flowers not made in a bouquet?
So I seem to be having a major dumb moment... I got the idea of making a birthday cake out of wet floral foam and fresh flowers.... only thing is now I can't figure out where to go to buy flowers not already made into a bouquet.
Also, how do florists get started? Is there florist school? See what I mean, major dumb moment going on!!
Heck, its Friday! I've got an excuse!
Flowers not made in a bouquet?
go to your grocery store floral department. You can get bunches of flowers, in a bouquet or not. Ours has stems of tulips, in groups of 7, I think. Carnations, daffodils, or alstromeria...which last a long time.
Reply:Most major stores such as grocery stores and WalMarts, KMarts etc. have single flowers that you can buy. Most floral shops also have singles that you can buy. As far as training, check with your large floral shops. In Illinois, it was Amling's. Most of these large distributors offer classes and training. Also check your local community college or Adult Education. Most of these colleges will offer classes in what you are talking about.
Can anyone tell me how to make chocolate covered strawberry bouquet?
I already know how to make the dipped strawberries , I do it all the time but I am looking for dirrections on how to make or what to use 4 the bouquet arrangements.I have seen them at ediblearraangements.com
Can anyone tell me how to make chocolate covered strawberry bouquet?
I just saw this in a magazine!! Use a cotton swab dipped in green food coloring to dye 12 wooden skewers, let dry for about 2 hrs.Insert dipped strawberries onto skewers, you can use chocolate or candy melts for pink or white roses.Put them in a vase.It says to use fresh mint to resemble the leaves.Keep in fridge until ready to present to your sweety!!There's probably a picture of it on their website!! GLhttp://familyfun.go.com/ It's called a berry sweet bouquet!
Reply:I agree with silly nilly Plus if you check at your local florist for those cute itty bitty balloons or your local grocery store, to add to it. Also if you want to arange them a special way or in a basket you can add that green florist blocks in the bottom so they will stay put in place. If you don't want to use the fresk mint [even though it would probley smell sweet ad nice] you colud yuse artificial flower leafs or arttifical ivy leafs. Good job Silly Nilly!

How many roses are necessary for a decent size bouquet?
I'm thinking about getting my bf a bouquet of roses for Valentine's Day. I've given him bouquets a few times for regular days, but I want this one to be special. How many roses do I need to get for a fairly large size bouquet? I was thinking of 30 to 50. Is that too much or too little?
How many roses are necessary for a decent size bouquet?
I think 13-16 Roses are good. You want to make it look full but not over done.
Reply:take a look at 18-20 single stem roses before going higher......it is easier to handle .....also see if you can cut a discount on the standard bouquet by buying 2-4 bunches and then add to one bouquet as to the size of your liking....

How long would a bouquet last in the trunk of a car?
Planning on giving my date on Valentines day a bouquet of roses at the end. However, I was thinking of putting them in the trunk, but would rather not give her wilted flowers.

How to freeze dry wedding bouquet?
I just got married, and my bouquet was real (fresh). I want to try to perserve the flowers, any ideas on how to freeze dry the flowers?
How to freeze dry wedding bouquet?
The Bouquet
Flowers can be dried, turned into potpourri or individually pressed within the pages of a book. To properly preserve a bouquet, don’t delay, begin the drying process before leaving on your honeymoon.
Turn the bouquet upside down and hang it in a dry, dark place for about two weeks. By that time it should be completely dried out and ready to decorate a wall or shelf.
To make potpourri, remove fresh petals and place in a bowl out of sunlight, for about 2-3 weeks. After the petals are dry, add a drop or two of floral-scented potpourri oil.
Pressed flowers or just the petals can be used to adorn the pages of a wedding album, placed in a picture frame or used on stationery. Cut fresh flowers close to the base and place them inside a folded piece of wax paper. Then, place it all within the pages of a heavy book. Check back in two weeks.
Reply:I don't think you want to freeze dry them but simply preserve them. Ask at the florist where the bouquet was made or at another garden-type store. There are products you can use to preserve fresh flowers. If the flowers aren't still fresh (2 days) perhaps you can have a duplicate made from silk flowers?

Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping water in fresh cut flowers for a bridal bouquet?
I am helping my sister with her bridal bouquet...she is planning on carrying a bouquet of cut flowers. Does anyone know a way of keeping water in the stem so the flowers do not dry out at wilt? I have heard of gluing the cut ends of the stems, but I don't know what type of glue to use....any tips??
Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping water in fresh cut flowers for a bridal bouquet?
Store them in water in the fridge until RIGHT before the ceremony (and put them back in water between pictures and ceremony as well as have a vase for them to sit in during the reception prior to the toss). Have a nice thirsty towel handy to drip them onto prior to use.
Just an FYI, cut flowers will usually stand going without water for an hour or two without problems...depends upon how delicate the flowers are though (roses last better than peonies for example).
Reply:The only thing I have ever heard is to not cut them with scissors because that seals the stems, if you want them to drink lots of water cut them with a sharp knife on an angle.
Honestly, florists are usually so nice, I would go into your local florist and ask them for tips and advice, best to get the answer straight from the horses mouth.
Good luck!
Reply:My mom was a florist for many years and i've never heard of glueing the stems. My suggestion is just to keep it in water and acool place as long as possible. The florist making it will stick in a bucket of water and put it in the cooler overnight until you pick it up. AS soon as you get to the reception site make sure you have some sort of container to use as a vase. Something you can put water in and put the boquet in it. Other than that there are no tricks that I know of.

Is there a technique to wrapping a flower bouquet?
Im really stuck getting the flowers to stay where i want them to in the bouquet.
Is there an easy way to get them spaced out correctly?
Any help would be appreciated
Is there a technique to wrapping a flower bouquet?
I think I will leave this to the ladies of G %26amp; L.
Reply:You can gently gather the stems with floral wire in order to keep the flowers together. Lay out a sheet of tissue paper with one of the corners pointing upward so it's in a diamond shape. Lay the flowers with the top of the bouquet near the top of the diamond but not at the tip because you want some paper around the flowers. Fold the botton tip of the diamond up over your stems. Fold in the left and right tips ofthe diamond around the stems and arrange the tissue around the blooms. You can tie the stems with a pretty ribbon and you're set.
Reply:you might need some kind of filler ( like fern or baby's breath) to make the bouquet more crowded and to help things stay in place.)
after place correctly, and wrapping, if you are happy with the position, a rubber band or 2 (at slightly different places) can help keep the stems in place.

Can I bring a bouquet of flowers from Colombia to the US?
I was the maid of honor for my friend's wedding and I want to bring the bouquet I carried. It is a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses. I am concerned that they may not let me bring it to the US. I heard that only flowers that are marked "secured for US" are allowed. Please if anyone knows the answer let me know.
Can I bring a bouquet of flowers from Colombia to the US?
I think that you can. But DONT carry it in your hand or your carry on. I bring avocados back all the time.. And most roses that we see in the US are from Colombia anyway. I dont see why not. Or, why not get them dried in Colombia before you go.
Reply:i dont know, security in colombia is pretty tight. you should probally pack it in your luggage or something, they might take it away if you have it with you or something. or you should probally go to the airport and check with them, just in case.
---and remeber dont bring anything liquid with you or in your hand bag, just in your luggage
Reply:I don't know about the flowers, but I was wondering if you could bring a package back for me? It is fairly small, only about a kilo in weight. Well?

What are your favourite flowers and why ? A free bouquet for the best answer.?
My favorite flowers are the ones my kids made for me from pipe cleaners and coffee filters when they were younger - I treasure them and have them displayed on my desk at work in a Mother's Day "vase" they painted for me from a soup can. My sons are older now, 13 and 12, but they're still my favorite flowers. However, if I were to choose one person to receive flowers, it would be my step-mom, Leona. My dad died in Sept of 98, and until his death he used to bring her flowers all the time - she loves fresh flowers of all kinds! I try and remember to bring her flowers on her birthday in memory of my dad... but I know if he's looking down from heaven, he'd love to see her receive flowers from someone else, knowing that in a real roundabout way, they were inspired by him. Her favorites are anything purple - her favorite color.
Thanks for reminding me of a special memory I have of my dad. :)

Chocolate covered strawberries bouquet?
I want to make a bouquet of chocolate covered strawberries. I need instructions and what to buy including the brand names. I will be making the whole thing using white, pink, and regular chocolate including buying the vase and little forks to hold them up and what to poke them into.
Chocolate covered strawberries bouquet?
Take whole strawberries, don't remove the green tops and wash them carefully. They have to be SUPER fresh. Buy some cadburies dark chocolate, and white chocolate chips, and some red food colouring. Melt the dark and dip 1/3 of the strawberries in, set aside on baking paper to set at room temperature. Melt the white choc and dip 1/3 and set again. with the remaining white chocolate put a drop of red food colouring in and some more white chocolate buds and microwave. If it goes clumpy add more white chocolate and melt it in until its runny. Dip the remaining 1/3 in that and set. Get some bamboo skewers from the supermarket and paint them whatever colour you like leaving 3 cm at the top for the strawberry. Poke the skewer through the center of the green but make sure to stop before the paint, as they contain chemicals you do not want to consume. Get a green cube from your local florist (that they do arrangements with) and poke them into that in equal distances apart. place that in your vase and decorate!

Reply:It can be difficult to know what to bring to a brunch. You can bring the typical, boring noodle casserole or gelatin fruit mold, like everyone else. Or, the next time you are asked to bring something to gathering, make something original with this creative strawberry bouquet. It is an easy to make crowd-pleaser and can also be used as a charming hostess gift.
Anyhoo:
Things You’ll Need:
Chocolate almond bark
Fresh strawberries
Vase
Ribbon
Wooden skewers
Wax paper
Step 1:
Melt a 16 ounce package of chocolate almond bark.
Step 2:
Wash two dozen fresh strawberries. They should be symmetrical and free of any deformities. The more red the strawberries are, the better your bouquet will look.
Step 3:
Insert the pointed end of a wooden skewer into the green leafy end of each strawberry. Push it in until it is halfway through. Set aside half of the strawberries.
Step 4:
Dip the remaining strawberries into the chocolate one at a time. Leave a small part of the strawberry uncovered, next to the leafy end. Lay them on a piece of waxed paper and refrigerate until the chocolate has hardened.
Step 5:
Place the skewers holding the chocolate covered strawberries into a clean vase.
Step 6:
Add the skewers with the uncoated strawberries. Spread them throughout the arrangement.
Step 7:
Tie a ribbon around the vase.

What can I do to keep my prom bouquet lookin' gorgeous, other than refridgerating them?
My prom was about a little over a week ago and my date got me this gorgeous bouquet of red roses and pink and white flowers. I really want to keep them for as long as possible without them getting ruined. I know they'll eventually dry up, but I would really appreciate any advice on how to preserve them for the longest time possible.
What can I do to keep my prom bouquet lookin' gorgeous, other than refridgerating them?
there r places to preserve it
you should google preserving bouquet's
i had my wedding one done here in ct. and 9 yrs later it looks the same as the day i was married
Reply:Trim the base of the flowers and put them in a vase with some water and a little bit of sugar. When you are ready to dry them hang them upside down to dry them out. This will make the color a little brighter then pressing them in a book and it will keep the bouquet full and pretty even when it's dried.

This site has good ideas. You can dry them, use silica gel or get a florist to freeze dry them

How do you hand tie gerber daisies into a bouquet?
I am planning on doing my own wedding flowers and I am using Gerber daisies. I want to do my bouquet in all Gerber daisies but I am looking for some advice on how to tie them together. I am worried since they have such delicate stems that I might break them when tying them up. Does anyone have any advice on what to do so that doesn't happen?
Should I wire them, if so how do you wire them? I have read a lot of articles on making bouquets but I can't find any how to's about gerbers.
Thanks!!
How do you hand tie gerber daisies into a bouquet?
The florist should have stem straws available... they look like drinking straws but they fit the stem of the daisy in perfectly. if you buy them from a wholesale try and get them with bloom cups on them. This way, when you are putting them together, you won't sacrifice any petals. keep the straws on them, pull the stems together, use clear packing tape or floral tape, then wrap them in whatever ribbon you choose. Once you create the bouquet leave the entire thing in water (bucket or vase) and on the morning of the wedding, cut the bloom cups off and the flowers will spread almost immediately
Reply:I did this for my wedding. Gerbera daisies are the best, biggest, brightest, cheerist flowers! I just love them. No, you don't wire them.
1. You take a bunch of them, adjust their flower heads so it looks nice.
2. Have someone hold them about an half - inch underneath their flower heads.
3. Tie a thin ribbon or rubber band around the top (where the person is holding) and an inch from the bottom.
4. Take a wide ribbon (one of your wedding colors) and wrap it around the stems, stopping an inch from the bottom.
5. Take a straight pin or a couple straight pins (longer the better) and jab it through the stems. This should hold the ribbon and secure your gerbs.
Email if you have futher questions. Good luck and congrats.

Reply:I wouldn't use wire because if you are inexperienced and do it too tight you can cut into the stems and damage the flowers.
If you want a perfectly round boquet you will need to do oasis. Take a ball and cut it in half and insert a rod for a handle. Soak the oasis in water. Trim the flowers and begin sticking them into the oasis then wrap the rod in ribbon if you want.
If you are just making a casual boquet then you will need to hold them or have a helper hold them bunched up how you want them to be. Then wrap liberally with floral tape, don't be skimpy. Hold the flower stems underwater and trim them so they are even on the bottom then wrap and decorate with fabric, ribbon, whatever you want.

Just received a very big bouquet of flowers? How do I keep them fresh?
Hi, Just received a very big bouquet of flowers, they are not for me, they are for someone who is going to come home from hospital on Thursday, they will not fit in any vases in the house?
Can I put them in a bucket? How much water should I fill it up to? Thanx.
Just received a very big bouquet of flowers? How do I keep them fresh?
If they do not fit in any vase then a bucket will be grand. Trim the ends of the stems, cutting them diagonally, only about 1cm and place in water. Put in plant food or if not supplied with the flowers, 5 teaspoons of sugar, and fill with water, half way up the stems, but not touching the leaves or plastic wrapper around them.
Reply:yes pu tthem in a bucket, add some sugar or lemonade to the water as it helps jkeep them fresh, or some of the plant food powder they normally come with, fill the bucket so the water covers all the bases of the stems and a little bit, check it regularly so they are never out of water
Reply:Make sure the end are not dried out or sealed as they need water to survive. Keep them somewhere cool Garage or shed or somewhere like that until the day you need them. Give them enough water to make sure they dont run out and ethe bottom of every stem. is submerged.
Reply:A bucket is OK. You need just enough water so that you can maintain all of the stems in contact with the water all day. If you are away from home for a long time, consider how much may evaporate while you are gone. Don't burn the stems, but rather cut each one just a quarter-inch or so with a very sharp knife or sharp scissors. Keep them in your refrigerator if they fit, or in your basement or other cool place.
Reply:To all of the advice given so far (except for burning the stems) add this - keep them out of direct sunlight.
Reply:I heard that if you burn the very bottom of the stems slightly it seals in whatever is in the stem and helps them last longer. Either that or put one of those sachets of plant food into the water.
Reply:Yes, a clean bucket will be fine. Take flowers and cut ends off all and place immediately in cool water. Then to help keep them fresh you can add a couple of aspirins, plain aspirins, to water. Crush them up to help them dissolve faster. Make sure none of the leaves of the flowers are in your fresh water, this will cause the flowers to die. Every other day, cut a small portion of the ends of flowers off, change the water, and add aspirin will help the flowers to stay fresh for many days longer. Hope this helps!
Reply:freeze them but make sure they're thoroughly de-frosted before cooking them
Reply:Yes put them in a bucket with a spoonful of sugar, half fill bucket to the stem ends
Reply:trim the stems and yes put them in a bucket. They need to all be in water but if poss don`t make the water too deep, it is better if no leaves or foliage from the flower are sitting in water.
Reply:a clean bucket is fine, fill to cover all the stems add a little sugar to the water keeps flowers really fresh, keep away from heat and direct sunlight

How much are a bouquet of roses?
its our 2 month anniversary with my gf and i just wanted to surprise her with a bouquet of roses. :]
roughly how much do they cost?
How much are a bouquet of roses?
Wal Mart or Sam's will probably be the least expensive places to go. Prices will vary depending on where you live, how the crop is this season, and availability. You can probably call them for a price. Large grocery stores with a floral department are also a good source.
Reply:Depends on where you live. In new york they are two dozen for under $20 but most places they will be around $20 for a dozen of nice roses.

How do I dry a rose, babies breath, and the green leafy things from a fresh bouquet?
I have a beautiful bouquet of long stem red roses my fiance had delivered to me today and I would like to dry one for a keepsake. Any ideas on how to do this?

keep them around for a couple more days. when they begin to droop just a little bit. remove them from the water immediately and tie them together at the bottom of the stems (a rubber band will work as well) hang them upside down in a dark dry place ( i usually do it in my closet) in about a week. they will be dry and ready to be kept forever. you can even stick them back in a dry vase for display. also, if you want you can spray them with a spray glaze to make them shiny.

Reply:Tie them together at the stem and hang them upside down in a dry area unti they are dried. The result will be a beautiful keepsake!
Reply:The best way to dry them is to put them between two pieces of acid free white paper in and then lay them in the middle of an old telephone book. Place a few more heavy books on top of that and leave them for about 6 months in a dry place. This will press and dry them and then you can mount them in a frame and keep them.
Reply:LuLu thinks she's smart, try and find dry ice and, without a license in the State. Anyhow, go to "Michael's" and ask the clerk, they have a micro wave kit for this purpose that's used for drying flowers, it's quite simple and works good. Other gift and Hobby stores sell it also. The "Hobby" store "Joann's" etc.
Reply:It may take a few weeks to dry out,but you could hang the flowers up side down with a clothes pin on a clothes hanger. Use a wire clothes hanger.

Questions about making a cookie bouquet?
Hi!
I'm wanting to make a cookie bouquet for my friends family for easter. I've tried making it before but I had some problems.
first off how do I make a dough that will not spread or will not spread much because last time it distorted the shape.
How do I put the stick in the cookies. do I bake it in with the cookies? If they are the paper sticks will the catch on fire or scorch?
Thanks so much!
Questions about making a cookie bouquet?
Refrigerated sugar cookie dough
Cookie sheet
Wooden craft sticks or thin dowels
Pre-mixed white icing
Food coloring
Metal spatula
Wax paper
Rubber band
Colored plastic wrap
Step 1:
Pre-heat your oven to the temperature on the cookie packaging.
Step 2:
Open a package of refrigerated sugar cookie dough. Roll out the dough into eight 2-inch-sized balls or use a small heart cookie cutter to shape the dough into heart shapes.
Step 3:
Place the balls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Insert wooden craft sticks or thin dowels into each cookie ball. Flatten the balls slightly.
Step 4:
Bake for about 13-to-15 minutes. Check on the cookies toward the end of the timeframe and remove them when the edges of the cookies are browned and crisp.
Step 5:
Mix icing with pre-mixed white icing and food coloring while your cookies are baking. You can use icing on your cookies with different colors or just use red and white.
Step 6:
Use a metal spatula to move the cookies from the cookie sheet to a sheet of waxed paper when they are done. Let them cool completely before icing.
Step 7:
Put the cookies together to make a bouquet. Wrap a rubber band around the ends of the sticks and wrap the sticks with colored plastic wrap.
***You can also make your bouquet out of chocolate chip cookie dough if you don't want to spend time icing them.

Question for florists: How can I calculate the number of flowers for a bouquet?
I saw on www.aquarelle.co.uk that for a bouquet having a diameter of 30 cms one needs 32 roses, for one of 25 cms: 27 roses and for one of 35 cms in diameter 37 roses. I want to use different varieties of flowers instead of roses, but do not know if this proportions will do. How does a professional florist determine the number of flowers vrs. volume proportion when making a bouquet?
Question for florists: How can I calculate the number of flowers for a bouquet?
its a judge ment by eye . i have been a florist for over 11 years and specialize in weddings. everything is eye judge ment and perception. are the flowers the same size as the roses? are they smaller? judge taht way , plus a 32 rose bouquet is a large bouquet, that would be be for a large size or taller girl
Reply:Usually by how much the customer wants to spend the rest is made up of green filler and gyp...... I suspect that you will need fewer flowers than what you read for the roses.....all depends how perfectly symetrical and how big you want it to be.
Reply:Asking a florist how many flowers you need is a little like asking a barber if you need a haircut.

Can you replant roses that were received in a bouquet?
I received a large bouquet of roses and wanted to know if you can plant the cutting and if they will survive?
Can you replant roses that were received in a bouquet?
You would need a "greeh thumb" so to speak. I have never done it but have know a few who have. Plant it deep in the ground and keep it watered good. My mother and grandmother would say to turn a jar upside down over it. This helps keep moisture in and keeps it from drying out in the sun. You may need to break the lower leaves off so to give more energy to the rose. Plant the part where the leaves were broken off--hopefully a root will develop there. I would suggest leaving the jar on through the coming winter also even if it looks like it is going to live--for protection.
Good luck

Reply:No, sorry you cant. But if you dry them right they will look beautiful!
Reply:No...they die before you can get them to root... so they can be planted
Reply:no, flowers start to die the moment they are cut.
Reply:No. Cut roses won't take root that way. Once the stem has been cut away from the root system it's already doomed.
Reply:No, that is not possible. You need the roots to go along with the roses so you can plant that part in the ground.
Reply:Actually, you can although sometimes if a preservative is used it won't work. Planting a rosebush from a wedding bouquet has always been rather popular. My sister followed the same basic instructions listed below with a rose from her bouquet. The plant lasted longer than her marriage (7 yrs) and she left it back in California.
I would be willing to bet that none of the previous posters have even tried it.

Can I somehow grow roses from seeds from a bouquet given me?
I have saved a dried bouquet of roses that means a lot to me and would like to grow roses from that exact bouquet...Does anyone know if this works? If it is possible, if you've done it, then how? Thanks in advance for your help...
Can I somehow grow roses from seeds from a bouquet given me?
If the roses are already dried, you can't get anything out of them now. It's hardly likely that they have formed a seed pod (called hips) in a bouquet.
You CAN sometimes get the rose in the bouquet to let out roots, and can plant those. I know a lady that has a couple of rose bushes outside her door, all from roses she was given and which she rooted. They always won't do it, but worth a try.
As for these, sorry -- you'll just have to enjoy them as they are now, and try to keep your memories.
Reply:If they're dried already, they can't. Really sorry.
Reply:It is too late for those roses, but an idea would be to take them to a rose grower, ask them to suggest roses the same as or similar to those used in the bouquet, and then order a few bushes of those roses for your garden.

Can you preserve a whole bouquet of roses with the babies breath and all,or does it have to be the roses alone
my bf just sent me a beautiful bouquet of roses and i would love to preserve them! i just dont know if i can preserve the whole thing or if i have to just preserve the roses. n e advice is helpful and taken.
Can you preserve a whole bouquet of roses with the babies breath and all,or does it have to be the roses alone
You can dry the whole bouquet but not sure if the babies breath will be durable.
Hang up side down in a very dry place
Reply:Oh by all means, dry the whole bouquet. If anything, the baby's breath are likely to stand up better than the roses. Can can actually buy dried baby's breath.

How to dry a rose bouquet?
I have a beautiful bouquet of long stem red roses that my husband gave me for Valentines Day. So far I've kept them fresh by putting them in the fridge every night and they still look brand new. Now I want to dry them though and use them as decoration in my living room.
I know that usually you are supposed to hang them upside down in a dry, dark place to dry them, but we live in a very humid area (right now the thermometer says the humidity is at 56%).
Would hanging them upside down in a dark place still work or is there some other trick I need to know?
Oh, and FYI, I live in North Africa and we do not have arts and crafts stores here. Any tricks would have to be something simple that I can do at home without having to buy anything special.
How to dry a rose bouquet?
I live in a humid area as well.Hanging them upside down in a dry ,dark area are the usual instructions but I have found that it is also important to hang them where there is good air circulation. The most important parts are not in direct sunlight, hanging upside down and in a warm area with good air circulation. The air helps prevent mold.I live on the coast of British Columbia ,Canada and I have had good results that way.GOOD LUCK !!
Reply:hang then upside down in a closet/washroom. after theyve hung for a week, maybe two, spray them with shilac (spelling?). let them dry real good before you put them in a vase or whatever youre gonna do.
Reply:The answer above is right. If you don't want to by shellac, hair spray works, too.

How much do a bouquet of flowers usually cost?
im not talking about cheap flowers, a bouquet that smells nice and looks pretty... what are the price ranges?
How much do a bouquet of flowers usually cost?
$40 - $60
Reply:I get nice ones for $7 to $11 at Trader Joes. They often have the Stargazer Lilies in the mix that are quite fragrant.
Depending on the time of year they change what flowers are in their bouquets...best ones for the $$ i have found so far.
Reply:about $18.00-$40.00 dollors....... it depends of what kind of flowers they are....
Reply:Anywhere from $5.oo to $500.00 depends on where you shop, but you can usually find what you are looking for in like a grocery store for around $20.00
Reply:You're lookin at about 30 -60 bucks.. depending on type of flowers used, size.. and the florist.
Reply:generally around $60 US
Reply:Depends on what yur lookin for, love. Can vary from 3-12$ or even 20-70$ I think that's a bit scurvy but I don't make the rules.
Reply:It depends on what type of flowers and if they are in season, what part of the country you live in and what type of store you buy them from.
I go to the market here in Western Michigan and i can get a dozen perfect roses almost any color for anywhere between $9.99-$14.
If you get a mixed bouquette it is around $7-$10.
You can add on about $5 to these prices if you get them right at the florists and they are never in any better quality.
Reply:from $15.00 %26amp; up and all depends on what kind of flowers as well.
Reply:You can spend around $20 at a Costco or Sam's Club on a beautiful, large bouquet of flowers. That is if you have a membership, of course.
Reply:depends you can get a few for a couple bucks at the grocery store

How can I save flowers from a bouquet?
I receive flowers from my boyfriend who is in the Army and currently deployed. I have tried drying a few of the flowers from my first 3 bouquets. But the last few because of the weather and humidity haven't turned out so well. These flowers mean a ton and more to me and I would love to be able to save some from each bouquet. A friend told me to put them in vinegar in a closed jar. She was not sure if that was all you put in it or not. If anyone knows how to do this I would really appreciate any help given!! Thanks!
How can I save flowers from a bouquet?
there is a silicone white sandy powder you can get at Michael's or JoAnn's///// place the flowers in a box or
something that has a lip and gently pour the sand over
them and leave them for a few days
Reply:Why not hang them upside down 'til dry? Some will look horrid, and some will do fine. When they're completely dry break each one up into petals. Put them in a really pretty glass jar. Potpourri! You can add essential oils to them. They will keep forever.
Reply:To save them, put them in a vase with a little bit of sugar. (bout a tsp or two) and make sure the stems are cut in a slant.

What is the best way to preserve my wedding bouquet?
I was married this last weekend. My bouquet consists of hydrangea and roses, what steps do I need to take to dry it while keeping it looking beautiful afterward?
What is the best way to preserve my wedding bouquet?
Hang them upside down making sure you wrap them with thin paper so they dont get dusts. When they are dry, buy a special frame that has space inside that resembles an aquarium but not as deep and place your dry bouquet there. Arrange them as if they are in a vase. Actually, here in Australia, there are people that preserve wedding bouquets and frame them. I don't where you are but its worth asking around.
Reply:Borax is used to preserve flowers.

How can I keep a bouquet of roses?
i just got a bouquet from my bf, and i wanted to keep them forever. could i hang them upside down and spray them with hairspray, and then after a couple of days, put them in one of those shadow boxes to hang on my wall? or would that not work?
....only people who have had experience, please
How can I keep a bouquet of roses?
Try to spread out the petals, and let it dry a little. When the tips begin to get dry, hang the bouquet upside down from the ceiling. You can spray the outside of them with hairspray at this point.
Try to make sure the petals are spread far enough apart that the insides can get dry too or else they will rot.
After 1 or 2 days hanging upside down, spray the entire bouquet with hairspray, but DONT soak it. Let the spray completely dry. Every morning respray it for about a week, but be very conservative about how much you put on. Then leave it hanging for a few days.
After this, you should be able to put your bouquet in a vase and keep it forever :]
Reply:yes that works just dry out for a week upside down spray with hairspray upside down dry, and repeat..... then you can keep them for ever. but they are extra fragile
Reply:some craft stores sell a spray that will kind of 'freeze' the flowers into place. whenever i tried drying them with hairspray it didn't work that well.
Reply:A flower press...
Otherwise you may have to have them professionally preserved like using liquid nitrogen or something
Reply:i tryed it with a single rose, it worked but i didnt use hair spray and they go real crispy so handle with care, give it a go youre only going to chuck them out good luckxxx

When given a bouquet of flowers, do you change the water everyday, or just add water to it?
my new boyfriend is so sweet, he sends me flowers everyother week. I want to keep them in good condition, but its really tiring to change the vase water everyday, and sometimes i dont really have alot of time for that. However, I want them to last a long time and show him that I really appreciate them. What are some tips to keep bouquet flowers lasting?
When given a bouquet of flowers, do you change the water everyday, or just add water to it?
I usually make sure there are no leaves below the water line so the vase is less likely to get slimy. Then I put about 1/2 of the packet of plant food that comes with the flowers (or a little Sprite) in the vase along with cool water. I check the water level every day or so and add water as needed. On about the 4th or 5th day I change out the water, discard any wilted flowers, rinse the stems, clean the vase out, and put the remaining plant food in the vase along with cool water and the remaining flowers. I check the water levels as before and keep those babies going as long as possible.
Some flowers have a longer life as cut flowers than others. Roses and tulips generally have a relatively short life, but carnations often last for quite a long time.
Reply:drop an aspirin into the water
Reply:change the water everyday.it will kepp them fresh and beautiful.
Reply:Idd, try dissolving small amounts of aspirin, it keeps em mint :)
Also, it should work if you only change the water every 3 days or so...
Reply:I don't know if this is the "appropriate" thing to do, but I just add water to the vase rather than completely changing the water.
I've also heard that adding some clear soda such as sprite or seven-up to the water helps them last longer. The sugar helps feed them.

Reply:Be sure that there are no leaves inside the vase, and in the water. This will avoid any bad smell. Plus this helps to have clear, nice water for longer.
You will need, thoug, to chance the water every 2-3 days for the flowers and bouquet in general to stay pretty. When changing water, try to rinse the stems (just a little water to clean them) Add an ice cube or two (depending on the amount of water and size fo your bouquet) to the new water, and you are set to go! Your flowers will be pretty for longer. It has worked for me :-) Good luck!
Reply:When getting flowers there's usually a pachet that goes with them. Put that into the water and just keep adding to the water or you wont get the full use out of that pachet. Spray some hair spray over it all and it should last 2 weeks. I think Mythbusters busted the asprin idea. Hairspray was the only one that worked.
